Students rewarded for excellence in testing

Students in grades 3 through 8 who demonstrated excellence in last week's district-administered tests were rewarded Friday with an hour of game time at the Southwest campus.

About 60 overall had results that showed high student achievement in the assessments, said Mr. Jesse Arps, the campus director.

The tests measured the student learning progress based on formerly released STAAR (The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness). The progress is based on their curriculum from the first and second six weeks of school.

This week, kindergarten through second-grade students will take their assessments.

It is important that students are encouraged to review learned strategies taught in class and do their best work on each assessment. The results inform teachers on how to best meet student needs.

As always, we encourage parents to ensure students rest well each night, eat a healthy breakfast each day, and send them to school knowing they will reach excellence.
