Staff earns root beer float for keeping campus "afloat" during pandemic

Southwest Campus Director Mr. Jesse Arps engaged in a play of words when he gave root beer floats to 25 staff members who have not missed a day of school since in-class instruction began Oct. 5.

"We appreciate your help," read a sign on a stand that featured root beer, ice cream and cups. "We Got This. Thanks 4 keeping us afloat."

In-class learning throughout the district began early this month in a delayed start because of COVID-19.  The Varnett Public School launched virtual learning on Sept. 8 in a cautious start of the 2020-2021 school year.

At the Southwest campus, about 150 students are attending school and about 350 are learning virtually, Mr. Arps said.

Congratulations to the "root beer float" staff. Keep up the good work.

Stay safe, everybody!
