Tennis is back at Varnett!

Dear Parents,

Do you want your child to:
  • Work on hand-eye coordination?
  • Develop skills that could lead to a college scholarship?
  • Improve agility, flexibility and balance?
  • Enhance critical thinking?
  • Increase social skills?
Tennis may be the answer.

The Southwest campus will re-launch its tennis program for middle school students after the coronavirus pandemic forced a suspension of the activity last year.

Mr. Kenneth Groovey, the tennis coordinator, said the after-school program will begin on the first week of March, with practice set for 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. twice a week. Mr. Marvin Neal, who has an extensive tennis background, will return as coach. The class will include up to 10 participants.

Mr. Groovey said permission forms will be sent home for parents to sign. They must be returned by February 26. Students must have a passing grade to become eligible and parents must pick up their children no later than 5:10 p.m.

All COVID safety measures will be enforced, including social distancing and the use of hand sanitizers.

Varnett has already announced the return of its chess program as a way to expand extra-curricular activities cut short last year by the coronavirus.
