Graduating 8th graders take "final walk" through campus before entering high school

Southwest's 8th graders took a symbolic "final walk" through campus Thursday as they were cheered on by well-wishers ranging from Pre-K students to former teachers.

The event marked the final week for the middle schoolers before they take on the challenges of high school.

The students, who were joined by their teachers, first gathered in front of Varnett's administration building before entering the Early Childhood Center where they were greeted by pre-schoolers and kindergartners on both sides of the line.

They marched to the Southwest campus and later assembled in the cafeteria where they saw a videotaped, congratulatory message from Dr. Margaret Stroud, Varnett's superintendent.

From there, they walked to the front of the Southwest campus building to meet their awaiting parents.

It ended with lots of picture-taking and hugs.

Congratulations to all!
