Varnett well represented in MLK Day parade

More than 60 Varnett Public School students enthusiastically and proudly participated in the 44th Annual Original MLK Day Parade Monday in honor of the late civil rights leader the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Varnett was represented by 46 students dressed in green from the Southwest campus and 18 students dressed in purple from the Northeast campus.

The parade, sponsored by the Black Heritage Society and the City of Houston, began at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Smith and Lamar streets in downtown Houston and ended at 12:30 p.m.

In 2020, more than 120 Varnett students were proud participants in the 42nd Annual Original Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade celebration in downtown Houston.

Here's a look at this year's participants. Thanks to all of our staff who prepared our students to make their excellent performance possible.
