The Southwest campus cheer team is headed to the nationals after taking first place in the SSAP Cheer and Dance regionals at Thurgood Marshall High School in Missouri City.
The cheer team of 18 girls from grades 3 through 8 competed in the middle school category and were graded on dance motions, jumps, stunts and tumbling.
Next up is Dallas, where the group will compete in the SSAP Cheer and Dance Nationals on March 4.
Dr. Nita White, Varnett's superintendent, congratulated the team and coaches at a gathering in the administration building.
