Library to host book fair

The Southwest Campus library will host two book fairs to promote student reading and raise money for library resources.

Librarian Deloris Jackson held a student “walk-through” on Friday, October, 7, before the official sale takes place Oct. 10-14. Students had a chance to look at the display of books and other items to get a feel for what they want and how much money they should bring. Ms. Jackson told the students to come with at least $2.

"You need money to buy, buy, buy," she said. "What do you need?"
"Money," the students chanted.

School Board member Thomas Johnson watched as students toured the library.

Henry Robinson, a 22-year employee of Scholastic Book Fairs, on Thursday unloaded boxes filled with books, posters, erasers, bookmarks and more.

Each year Scholastic Book Fairs, in partnership with schools across the country, hosts more than 120,000 book-sale events that give more than 35 million students access to thousands of affordable and educational products, helping foster a lifelong love for reading, its website says.

The fairs have turned into effective fund-raisers to supplement the students’ learning experience at Varnett.
