“Explore, Dream, Discover” key message for graduating 5th graders

Larry Green recently was elected to the Houston City Council and is the CEO of HoustonWorks USA, a nonprofit organization that provides job training and placement. The company has secured more than $60 million in revenue over the last three years.

So, Mr. Green knows what he’s talking about when he touts the value of education. He shared that knowledge Thursday, May 31, to 55 Southwest Campus graduating 5th graders at the Stafford Civic Center.

“Education is a continuing process,” said Mr. Green, who urged the students to think about their future as they move on to junior high school and beyond. He encouraged them to think about what they want to be and warned them not to settle. “Whatever you do, you have to like it.” he said, “so you can do what you want to do, not what you have to do.”

Student Nia Welch delivered the valedictorian message and 5th grade teachers Yolonda Williams and Bruce Rhone presented the awards. Student Teresita Madrid delivered the welcoming message in line with the graduation theme “Explore, Dream, Discover.”

Congratulations to the graduating students and their parents. Have a fun and safe summer.
