It was a special kind of Father’s Day last week as dads and granddads flocked to Varnett to enjoy a nutritious breakfast with their children and grandchildren.
About 65 fathers showed up at the Southwest Campus cafeteria where they formed a long time to fetch their meals and an estimated 35 fathers gathered at the PreK cafeteria on Thursday, January, 23.
On the menu for “Breakfast with Dad Day” were biscuits with chicken patties, muffins, fresh fruit, juice and milk. It was clear that the fathers enjoyed the mealtime bonding with their children.
“I had a good time,” said Mr. Demetrian Morris, father of 4th-grader Ciara Black. “She’s been going to Varnett for a while now and there’s nothing but good vibes. She really loves the school.”
Mr. Morris added that he enjoyed talking with other parents and said he would become more active in his child’s activities at school. “I was always out of town for my job but now I have a job in town,” he said.
