Jai and Sky earn Mr. and Ms. Cinco de Mayo honors

Jai Cluff and Sky Orozco  made a fashion statement, impressed the judges and were named Mr. and Ms. Cinco de Mayo at the Southwest Campus.

The competition was stiff as boys and girls from all  grade levels displayed their Mexican-style clothes in preparation for a district-wide Cinco de Mayo celebration at Southwest on May 5.

The competitors walked in front of packed crowds in the cafeteria as the judges looked on. The kindergarten and 1st grade contestants were first before the room was cleared for the 2nd through 5th graders.

Jai is a first-grader and Sky is in kindergarten.  In representing the Southwest Campus, both will compete for the district’s Mr. and Ms. Cinco de Mayo during the celebration.

Several parents were on hand, many sitting in the front row, as they gave support to their children and took pictures and video.  Dr. M. Annette Cluff, Varnett’s superintendent, said there really were no losers and thanked the parents and children for their participation in Varnett’s first-ever Cinco de Mayo pageant.

Congratulations to all and thank you for participating.
