Southwest creates its own action in place of canceled Field Day event

Heavy rain and wet conditions forced the cancellation of Field Day Friday, but that didn't stop the Southwest Campus from staging its own outdoor activities.

Less than a week before regular school is out for the summer, students gathered in the parking lot and created their own fun with teachers and staff.

It was supposed to be a day when third through fifth graders throughout the district would gather at the Southwest Campus playfield for a multitude of games, sports and other activities. However, heavy rain earlier in the week forced the cancellation of Field Day for prek through second grade students on Wednesday, May 27. Because of wet field conditions and a forecast of possibly more rain on Friday, Field Day for the older students was canceled as well.

Field Day has been an annual event in which the three campuses join forces for districtwide fun just before the summer break. Promotion ceremonies will be held next week for prek4 and fifth grade students before regular classes end on June 4. Students will be let out at 1 p.m. on the final school day of the year.
