Grandparents join loved ones for breakfast and classroom reading

A Grandparents Day celebration at the Southwest Campus was a big hit Monday, Sept. 12.

Our guests started the day with a delicious breakfast, complete with warm biscuits, sausage, fresh fruit apple/ orange juice and blueberry muffins. As they socialized with their peers, the children soon joined them at the table. The theme for the day was "We Love You a Latte"  but, of course, no coffee was served.

Our visitors participated in some lively discussion about their grandchildren, how many they each have and other family-oriented topics.

Afterward, many were delighted to spend time with their little loved ones in their classrooms, reading a book to the class or having a story read to them. Teachers greeted each grandparent as he or she filed into the classroom.

Students presented their guest with a menu of books to choose from. As they got comfortable in their places, students served them a funny or warm story of their choice. The event was special to all who attended.

I witnessed many smiles on faces and saw so many hugs it would be impossible to count.

Thanks, grandparents, for coming to our special event.
