Southwest fifth-graders read to assisted living residents

Southwest Campus fifth-graders recently engaged in a community service event that granted them the opportunity to read to the residents of the Autumn Leaves of Meyerland assisted living home.

This activity allowed the students to give back to the community.

The nine students engaged their audience, asked questions and got a chance to get to know some of the residents who participated in the event. They also were able to learn various values and relationship-building skills from this opportunity. Furthermore, they participated in an authentic activity that highlighted the true meaning of helping others.

At Varnett Southwest, we strive to build these essential characteristics in all of our students through teaching, leading and modeling professionalism at all times.

We thank our students for their commitment to volunteerism.
