Today, The Varnett Public School joins communities across the nation in observing Patriot Day, a National of service and remembrance and marking 25 years since the events of September 11, 2001. We remember the lives lost, honor the courage of first responders and everyday heroes, and recognize the enduring impact on families and communities.

For our students, September 11 is a chapter in history they learn about through the experiences and memories of others. As educators and families, we have an opportunity to guide thoughtful, age-appropriate conversations about remembrance, compassion, courage, and the importance of helping one another.

We also express our gratitude to the firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical professionals, and others who serve and protect our communities. Their dedication reminds us that service takes many forms, and that each of us can make a difference.

As we embrace our theme, “Be the Change,” we encourage the Varnett community to turn remembrance into acts of kindness: thank someone who serves, offer support to a neighbor, or help someone in need. These simple actions honor the spirit of unity and care that brought people together in the days following September 11.

Together, we remember those we lost, honor those who answered the call, and help the next generation build a more compassionate world.
