School days are filled with meaningful moments and plenty of demands. When the day ends, thoughts about unfinished tasks, lesson plans, or tomorrow’s responsibilities can follow us home.
This week, The Varnett Public School’s Wellness Wednesday focuses on psychological self-care through cognitive unhooking: noticing work-related thoughts without letting them take over your personal time.
Try these two practices from this week’s wellness graphic:
Notice the thought without judgment. When a worry surfaces, gently name it: “I’m having the thought that I didn’t get enough done today.” Give yourself permission to acknowledge it without immediately acting on it.
Return your attention to the present. Focus on your surroundings, a conversation with someone you love, or a quiet moment of rest. When your mind wanders back to work, gently bring your attention back.
This week’s invitation: At the end of your workday, write down one priority for tomorrow. Then choose one activity that helps you transition into your personal time, a walk, music, or time with family.
You give so much to our students and school community. Make room to care for yourself, too.
Be the Change - one mindful moment at a time.
